Western Australia

Australia

Western Australia covers the entire western third of the country and combines the best of gorgeous beaches and reefs that contrast with the rugged desert of the outback. The majority of the state’s inhabitants live in its capital city, Perth, which leaves the rest of the state sparsely populated.  While the East coast of Australia has many wonderful attractions and world famous destinations, if you fail to make a trip to the western coast you will surely miss out on some of the best landscapes, beaches, and food and wine experiences the country has to offer.

While visiting Perth, enjoy shopping in the mix of eclectic shops, dining in one of the many cafes and restaurants or grab a drink at a local bar to get a taste of nightlife in Western Australia. Bell Tower, also known as Swan Bells, is one of Perth’s most unique attractions, so definitely add a visit to marvel in its unique architectural design and enjoy the view of the Swan River from its vantage point overlooking the river.  Stop by Heirisson Island, a hidden gem in Perth. It’s located right at the main part of the city, in the middle of Swan River, and has its own population of kangaroos.

Rottnest Island should definitely make it onto your itinerary. It’s just a short ferry ride over from Perth, but feels worlds away. Explore the island along one of its many, by bike, or on a tour via air conditioned bus.  Enjoy the beautiful waters surrounding the island by snorkeling, kayaking, boating, surfing, or fishing. Head below the surface to see just how many of the 135+ species of tropical fish and 20 species of coral you can identify.   The quokka is the only mammal which is native to Rottnest Island, and is known as the happiest animal on earth because it always looks like its smiling! Who wouldn’t want to take a selfie with those cuties?!
